Case Study: Pedestrian WalkOvers for a School Roof in Pimlico, London
When a London primary school required essential maintenance work on its flat roof, the contractor faced a common but tricky challenge: how to allow safe worker access without damaging the existing roof membrane.

The Challenge
Flat roof maintenance in an urban environment presents several constraints:
- The existing roof membrane was delicate and expensive to replace if damaged
- Workers needed to carry tools and materials across the roof surface repeatedly
- The project was time-sensitive, with school holidays providing only a narrow window
Our Solution
GT Trax supplied a quantity of WalkOver pedestrian panels — lightweight, interlocking mats designed specifically for sensitive surface applications. The panels spread the load of foot traffic across a wider area, protecting the membrane below while providing workers with a stable, non-slip surface to work from.
Delivery was arranged to coincide with the start of the works, and the panels were lifted to the roof by crane. At completion, they were removed swiftly, ready for the next project.
The Result
The roof membrane was fully protected throughout the works — no damage, no costly repairs. The contractor was able to complete the maintenance on schedule, with the school reopening on time for the new term.

This project is a good example of how ground (and roof) protection thinking applies far beyond traditional muddy construction sites. Wherever delicate surfaces need protecting from foot or vehicle traffic, GT Trax has a solution.
